SOAS University of London has been ranked 2nd in the UK and joint 32nd in the world for the UN Sustainable Development Goal “Climate Action” in the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings 2020. The THE University Impact Rankings 2020 capture universities’ impact on society, based on institutions’ success in delivering the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These global goals are aimed at creating a more equal and sustainable world by 2030. With 806 institutions from across the world taking part, SOAS ranked in the top 200 overall. SOAS was ranked number one in the UK and in world top five for supporting SDG “Peace Justice and Strong Institutions”.
SOAS’s excellent ranking for “Climate Action” reflects projects like the Solar SOAS initiative, SOAS’s leadership among London universities in divesting from fossil fuels, and the formation of the Climate Action Group. It also acknowledges the work of the SOAS Centre for Sustainable Finance on aligning financial systems with sustainable development and scaling up finance for a just transition to a low-carbon world, and the advancement of debate through events such as those organised as part of London Climate Action Week.
