Chouette Films receives Engaging Communicator Award

7 July 2022

Huge congratulations to Anna and Remi Sowa , who have received an Engaging Communicator Award from SOAS in recognition of their work with innovative green film production company Chouette Films . Based at SOAS, Chouette Films draws stories from the world of academia and seeks to extend the reach of their impact to wider audiences by harnessing the powerful and expressive language of film, whilst also minimising their environmental footprint during all stages of the film-making process.

One of their most recent films - Gũlā: music for a sacred time - has been selected for inclusion in a forthcoming special ethnomusicology issue of the film journal Screenworks . SOAS Emeritus Professor of Musicology Richard Widdess conducted primary research for this beautifully edited short film, which provides the viewer with an intimate, compelling contemporary portrait of dāphā , a genre of Nepalese Hindu-Buddhist devotional singing.
