Ulrich Volz, Professor of Economics and Director of the Centre for Sustainable Finance,  was invited by the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) to give the opening address and set the scene in a session on ‘Solutions for debt sustainability in Small Island Developing States’ at the Wadadli Action Platform.

The Wadadli Action Platform was convened in Antigua by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda from 8 to 9 August 2022 with the aim of transforming ambition and commitments for enhancing resilience in Small Island Developing States (SIDS) into urgent and concrete actions.

“Wadadli”, meaning “our own”, signifies the leadership of SIDS in pioneering tailored and sustainable solutions, including through local and traditional knowledge. Professor Volz presented ideas for addressing the looming debt crisis facing SIDS, drawing on a comprehensive proposal developed by the Debt Relief for a Green and Inclusive Recovery project jointly convened by the SOAS Centre for Sustainable Finance, the Boston University Global Development Policy Center, and the Heinrich Böll Foundation.
