- The Accommodation of Migrants in Berlin: Exploring the City and Urban Transformations (Working Title)
Christian holds a B.A. in political science from Freie Universität (FU) Berlin and a M.A. in Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies from Columbia University, New York. In 2016 and 2017 he worked as an external teacher at Otto-Suhr-Institute for political science at FU Berlin.
My PhD-project locates itself between urban and border studies. I analyse the accommodation of migrants in relation to the city. Empirically, I focus on current development in Berlin. I argue that this perspective is crucial to understand larger societal and urban transformations. Simultaneously, this focus aims to de-exceptionalise the question of migration and puts it into the larger context of the city. My project analyses several layers: the structural orders of the accommodation in the city, questions of in-/exclusion in terms of citizenship and labour, and the everyday life and political character of these places. The project is based on extensive and in-depth field research in Berlin.
