Felix Berenskötter is Senior Lecturer in International Relations. He specializes in international theory; concepts of friendship, identity, power, security, peace, space and time; European security and transatlantic relations, and he has published on these topics in various outlets. He is associated with the Center for Advanced International Theory (CAIT), Sussex, and co-founder and former chair of the Theory Section of the International Studies Association (ISA). Felix is Associate Editor of the ‘Journal of Global Security Studies’ (Oxford University Press) and co-convenor of the 'Interpretivism in International Relations' BISA Working Group.
Dr Berenskötter received his PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and a Masters from Rutgers University, where he was a Fulbright Scholar. Before coming to SOAS in 2009, he was a Research Associate at the Department of War Studies, King's College London, and a Research Fellow at the John Sloan Dickey Center for International Understanding, Dartmouth College. In earlier years he had a peek into various areas of work (ranging from driving ambulances to diplomacy) but eventually decided that academia is a good place to both retreat from and intervene in the world. Felix is currently working on two projects exploring (1) international friendship and estrangement processes; (2) the meaning and purpose of theory in the discipline of International Relations.
