In this discussion panel six scholars will discuss their experiences of doing PhDs with a focus on Taiwan. By discussing what they did right and wrong during their doctoral studies, we hope this can offer some lessons for future PhD students in the field.

Topics that we may address include:

  • Choosing the university, department and supervisor

  • Selecting the research topic

  • Funding the PhD

  • Joining conferences

  • Publishing during the PhD

  • Working and teaching during the PhD

  • Academic networking

  • Work life balance

  • Dealing with setbacks during the PhD

  • Surviving the initial post PhD period
