Programme

10:30am - 12:00pm Ghauli (Rice) Art Workshop with Manjri Shah

Drop-in interactive session and demonstration. Rice symbolises “last birth”, and rice grains are used as part of the puja ritual in this ghauli art form to create symbols and help Jains meditate on their desire for ‘last birth’.

12:00pm - 1:00pm Heirloom Show and Tell with Jyoti Mehta

Anyone who has watched The Repair Shop of Antiques Roadshow knows how a single object has the power to open up precious family memories, long histories and deep ideas. Attendees are encouraged to bring along a Jain heirloom and share what it means to Jains and their family. Everyone is welcome to this informal and intimate session of storytelling.

2:00pm - 3:00pm Jain University Challenge with a Jain Student Association

Learn about Jainism through this Jain-based rendition of the popular TV game show. Two teams of university students and recent graduates will compete against each other on various topics of Jainsim through a series of questions, music rounds, picture rounds, and even audience participation rounds.

3:10pm - 3.45pm Jain Cosmology with Shital Shah (Lecturer at Shree Digamber Jain Association)

Ever wonder what is out there beyond the world that we know? With use of detailed diagrams Shital Shah explains how the Jain universe, and our place in it, is understood as per the Jain scriptures. Shital has decades of Jain scriptural study under his belt, with particular interest in topics of karma theory and Jain cosmology.
