Biography

I have a Combined Honours BA in Philosophy and History of Art (UCL) and an MA (Distinction) in History of Art and Archaeology (SOAS). For both my BA and MA, my main interest and dissertations were Modern and Post-Modern Art, although I have studied both Western (at BA and MA) and non-Western Art (at MA) extensively and from antiquity. My research is entitled: “Rising from the Ashes: The Semiotics of Subversion in the Works of Contemporary Iranian Women Artists of the ‘Burnt Generation.’”

I have been the course tutor for “Themes in the Art and Archaeology of the Near and Middle East” (from the 7th Century to the Present) for the past two years and am also working as a research assistant at Plymouth University. I have given talks at Symposia Iranica ("The Story-teller of her Generation: Art Imitating Life in the Works of Shadi Ghadirian"), Association for Art History (“Living with Uncle Sam in the Islamic Republic of Iran: Anti-American iconography) and the Stuart Hall Library as part of Iniva’s Global Revision (Veiled Allusions: The Iconography of the Veil in the Works of Contemporary Iranian Women Artists").
