Biography

Luísa is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Politics and International Studies at SOAS, under the Leverhulme-funded project, “Renewing Positive Complementarity: Reframing Justice Relations after Atrocity” led by Professor Phil Clark.

Luísa’s research is situated within the field of critical IR, broadly understood, focusing on race, capitalism, and colonialism. Her current research engages with questions of transformative justice – its meaning, and pathways to obtain it – using grounded and bottom-up approaches that capture how people express demands individually and collectively and enact different forms of living together, beyond existing national and international structures. Luísa specialises in South Africa and Brazil and has worked on migrant rights in the UK, within the third sector.

Luísa is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Prior to joining SOAS in 2023, Luísa was a Lecturer of International Relations at Cardiff University (2020-2023). Luísa obtained her PhD from SOAS in 2019.
