Pan-African Frontiers and Identities

Dr Daniel Mulugeta leads the multi-sited collaborative research project ‘Pan-African Frontiers and Identities: the remaking of Africa in world politics’, which is funded by the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Future Leaders Fellowship scheme. The project explores the diverse deployments of pan-Africanism as a geopolitical and policy framework both on the African continent and in the diaspora.

It studies the policy implications of the mobilisation of the idea and ideals of pan-Africanism in the fields of African security, African development and diaspora politics. The project aims to bridge gaps between theory, policy and practice and to develop perspectives that will help drive new thinking in continental and regional policymaking and diaspora engagement.
