Biography

Reylon Yount, our Global Community Fellow, is a Chinese American yangqin (hammered dulcimer) player transforming his instrument through performance, songwriting and improvisation. The 25-year-old Silkroad artist has performed internationally at venues such as the TED mainstage, Lincoln Center and Xinghai Concert Hall, and recorded as a featured artist alongside Rhiannon Giddens and Yo-Yo Ma on the 2016 GRAMMY Award-winning album Sing Me Home. A Harvard College alumnus and Marshall Scholar, Reylon graduated with distinction from the MA Music in Development programme at SOAS, where he researched the ways music shapes transcultural identity. Based in London, Reylon co-directs Tangram, a transnational Chinese music collective envisioning a future beyond the China-West divide.
